6th Grade

Here is a typical newsletter for 6th grade:

What’s been happening -

Homeroom- Each morning the student are responding to different journal prompts.  It is expected that they write a minimum of ½ page each morning.  I do collect the journals, for writing lesson ideas (I see where they need some work), and for a grade.

Literacy- They continue to have a lit book they are reading in school and they are working on a layered curriculum with their lit book.  We’ve also been spending some time writing different types of poetry.  Students are writing, revising, editing and publishing different personal poems.

Drama- The big event was held on Sunday @ 6pm and Monday @ 1pm.  Students did a fantastic job with their lines and actions!

MN History- We wrapped up presentations on different chapters in the book before Spring break, now the students are doing some MN map work- looking at different boundaries, areas of development and agriculture.  They seem to be enjoying it!

Science- We began a new chapter on Robots and Technology- more to come on this.

Looking ahead-

April 22nd- EARTH DAY

April 27th-There is a DARE graduation coming up on April 27th @ 10am in the cafeteria.  Students will be sharing what they’ve learned from their DARE officer and making a statement about their opinions of being drug and alcohol free.  Watch for more details soon!

April 29th- Grandparent’s Day & Talent Show

May 12th- Field trip to the TWINS game @ Target Field!

June 3rd- Field Trip to Faribault Pool- whole school

June 4th- With all their work on MN History, I planned a field trip to the MN History

Museum for June 4th.  We will be leaving immediately that morning for a tour of the State Capitol and then have some lessons and tours of the museum.  I will need a couple chaperones that can drive us there and back.  See the attached permission slip.

June 11th- Last day of school!!!  Happy SUMMER!!!

I am sure there are more things on the calendar, so be watching for additional information- this is a CRAZY time of the year.  I will do my best to pass on any additional information to you, when I get it.

Happy Birthday to Luke Marvin on April 24th!
