Notes from the Nurse
As winter approaches, please remind children of some practices to avoid illness:
- Wash hands with soap and water often and thoroughly
- Don’t put things in your mouth such as pens, pencils, hair accessories, etc.
- Cough into your elbow to avoid transfer of germs to things you touch
- Consider having your child keep a bottle of the alcohol based hand sanitizer in their desks especially if coughing or sneezing often.
Medication Administration at School
No medication can be given at school without a written request from the parent signed and giving complete instructions for its administration.
Medication must be brought to school in the original container (or labeled “blister pack”), labeled by the pharmacy. Please send only the amount the student will be taking at school to avoid sending containers back and forth daily (with the exception of eye drops). This form is available at the office. This includes over the counter meds and cough drops.
Students may not carry medication with them except inhalers for asthma or Epi pens. If your child is carrying this type of medication also fill out the attached form (available at the school office) and indicate the student will keep the medication with them and that you and your doctor have evaluated their ability to self administer.
Please feel free to call if you have questions. I am at school on Tuesdays, you may also call Elizabeth Bade, District Nurse at 645-1205. St. Dominic follows the health direction and policies of the Northfield School District.
Immunizations
Students must have current required immunizations on file the first day of school in order to remain in school. Your clinic may fax recent immunizations to school at 507-645-8818. I have the records from pre-school screening if your child was screened in the Northfield District. Seventh grade records are shared with the Northfield Middle School.
Thank you to the parents who have sent your records to me during the summer.
